While this production marked the first time that the musical Dames at Sea appeared on Broadway, it was deemed eligible in the “revival” category for the 2016 Tony Awards.

Dames at Sea originally premiered Off-Off-Broadway in May 1966 at Caffe Cino (starring Bernadette Peters), then played Off-Broadway at the Bouwerie Lane Theatre Dec. 20, 1968, to enthusiastic reviews and quickly transferred to the Theater de Lys on April 22, 1969, where it went on to run for 575 performances.
