Description
Ralph Alswang, architect. When it opened on November 28, 1972, the Uris was the first legitimate Broadway theatre built since 1928. The Theatre Hall of Fame is housed in a special oval room in the lobby. On June 5, 1983, during a Tony Awards broadcast, the name was changed to honor composer George Gershwin and his brother, lyricist Ira Gershwin.
