Biography: Betty Comden was born Basya Cohen on May 3, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York to Leo and Rebecca Cohen. She studied drama at New York University. She married designer and businessman Steven Kyle, with whom she had her children Susanna and Alan. She published her memoir, "Off Stage," in 1995. Her longtime collaborator was Adolph Green. Their professional partnership lasted more than 60 years.

Film/TV Credits: Film credits include: "Singin' in the Rain," "Auntie Mame," "On the Town," "The Band Wagon," "What a Way to Go!," "Good News," "Dummy," "It's Always Fair Weather," "Bells Are Ringing," and "Garbo Talks." Television credits include: "Frasier," "What's My Line?," "Great Performances," "The Match Game," "American Masters," "The Ed Sullivan Show," and "To Tell the Truth."

Other Awards: Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1980. Inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1981. Comden and Green received Kennedy Center Honors in 1991.

Trivia:
Comden and Green formed a troupe called the Revuers with Judy Holliday and Leonard Benstein, which performed at the Village Vanguard club in Greenwich Village.
The marquees of Broadway theaters were dimmed in her honor on November 28, 2006.
