Biography: Marian McPartland was born in Windsor, England, on March 20, 1918 to Frank and Janet Turner. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London. She married jazz musician Jimmy McPartland in 1946. Her survivors include two grandchildren.

Other Awards: Named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master in 2000. Received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 2004. Inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2007. Named a member of the Order of the British Empire in 2010. Her “Piano Jazz” radio show received a Peabody Award in 1983.
McPartland hosted the popular public radio show “Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz” for over 30 years.
