Biography: Louvinia White was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina. She won the Apollo's Amateur Night competition at age 18. She graduated from New York University. She married William Pointer in 1947. She taught at several Brooklyn schools from 1958 to 1984. She founded the Great Day Chorale, a 50-voice choir that toured nationally and internationally, in 1987.
