Selected Off Broadway directing credits: "A Raisin in the Sun" (1986), "The Member of the Wedding" (1989), "The Old Settler" (1998). Also directed at Arena Stage, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Syracuse Stage, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and the Alliance Theatre Company.

Became Artistic Director of the Cincinnati Playhouse in 1972, the first ever African-American Artistic Director in an American Regional Theater.
