Description
Built for Jenny Lind's 1850 New York debut, but it wasn't finished in time. After burning down in 1854, it was rebuilt and leased to Laura Keene for her Varieties. William Burton leased it briefly in 1856, but the Panic of 1857 resulted in his departure. Dion Boucicault then renamed it the Winter Garden. Edwin Booth took over in 1864, intending to stage "pure, legitimate drama." Unfortunately, it burned down in 1867. A hotel was built which (under a new name) collapsed in 1973, killing four people.
