Nazimova's 39th Street Theatre
Description
William A. Swasey, architect. Lee and J.J. Shubert named their newest theatre for great actress Alla Nazimova in order to keep her in their management firm. When that failed and she defected to Charles Frohman in 1911, the Shuberts removed her name from the theatre. In 1926, they closed the theatre to focus on their more centrally located ventures, selling it to developer A.E. Lefcourt, who promptly razed the theatre and built a twenty story office building in its place.
