ABOUT THIS PRODUCTION

Theatres
63rd Street Music Hall
(May 23, 1921 - Jul 15, 1922)

Description
A musical in two acts

After this production closed, a national tour began in August 1922. Josephine Baker was hired as a dresser for the production, and later offered herself as a replacement when a chorus girl fell ill during the tour's engagement at Boston's Selwyn Theater. She danced in the chorus from August 1922 through the end of the tour in the fall of 1923. She did not appear in the Broadway production, as is often reported.

Setting
Election Day in Jimtown, in Dixieland.

Comments
Based on Flournoy Miller and Aubrey Lyles' vaudeville sketch known as both "The Mayor of Jimtown" and "The Mayor of Dixie."

It is reported the musicians in the orchestra memorized the entire score and played each performance without sheet music.
