Biography: Fay Kanin was born Fay Mitchell on May 9, 1917 in New York City to David and Bessie Mitchell. She studied at the University of Southern California, and was hired as a script reader at RKO Pictures. She was the second woman to be named president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
