Tony Award nominee and Daytime Emmy Award winner Mary Fickett first appeared on Broadway in the 1949 play I Know My Love. In 1955, she joined the Broadway production of Tea and Sympathy and received a Theater World Award. She created the role of Eleanor Roosevelt in Sunrise at Campobello in 1958, for which she received a Tony Award nomination, and last appeared on Broadway in 1963 in Love and Kisses.

Fickett was an original cast member of the ABC daytime drama All My Children, playing Ruth Brent Martin from 1970 until 2000. She earned a Daytime Emmy Award for her work in 1973, becoming the first daytime drama performer to receive the honor, and received two additional nominations.
