Biography: John Francis McMartin was born in 1929 in Warsaw, Indiana. He joined the United States Army after graduating from high school. He was a member of the New Phoenix Repertory Company in the 1970s. He originated the role of Oscar in "Sweet Charity" on Broadway. He married Cynthia Baer, with whom he had two children. His long-time partner was actress and artistic director of the Irish Repertory Theatre, Charlotte Moore.
