On April 15, 1956, Ms. Vance's husband, Gordon Pollock, was piloting a private plane from Detroit to New York City; she only other person on board. She was pregnant at the time. The plane disappeared somewhere near Lake Erie. Pollock's body washed ashore on Lake Erie near Simcoe, Ontario at the end of July 1956. It is unclear whether Ms. Vance's body was ever found.
